When Should You Consider Renting a Luxury Portable Restroom?

Admin • Apr 14, 2020

When it comes to event planning, portable restroom rentals can be a tricky subject. Aside from meeting the basic needs of your guests, you also want to ensure a comfortable and hygienic environment without blowing out your event's budget. Luxury restroom trailers offer a single option to fulfill all of these goals, but knowing if they're right for your event may not straightforward.

If you're considering these opulent throne chambers for your event, then this article will provide you with the critical information you need to make the right rental decision. Below you will find four essential considerations you'll need to take into account before hiring luxury trailers for your guests.

1. Access to On-Site Utilities

Unlike traditional porta-potties, most portable restroom trailers offer sinks and other amenities. Depending on the model you choose, the restroom trailer may require access to both water and electricity on-site. Some units have their own integrated water storage tanks, but these need periodic refilling and may limit overall capacity.

Before moving on with your selection, always be sure that your site will offer the utilities required by the trailer that you want. For units requiring electrical hook-ups, the requirements are often modest enough that gas-powered generators are sufficient. If you plan to use these for your events, be sure to calculate the cost of generators and gas into your budget.

2. Guest Capacity and Physical Footprint

Typical chemical toilet porta-potties offer one significant advantage: they are highly space-efficient. If ground space at your event is at a premium, then the flexibility and small footprint of these units may make them a better option. You'll typically want one restroom for every 25–50 guests at your event, so you will need enough space to accommodate each trailer or portable toilet.

When considering guest capacity, it is also crucial to think about their expectations for your event. For weddings or intimate celebrations, long lines are particularly undesirable. In these cases, you may want to increase your overall number of facilities. Don't forget to consider the footprint of generators, water tanks, or other required items, as well.

3. Disability Access

You want all of your guests to be comfortable, and that means ensuring that your portable restroom setup can accommodate guests with special needs. For public events, you will need to comply with ADA regulations that require a minimum of one ADA-compliant toilet. If you have a large number of restrooms on-site, then at least 5% of your stalls must be ADA-compliant.

Note that even single-use ADA portable restrooms tend to take up more space, so factor this into your requirements. For multi-user luxury restrooms, be sure to enquire about units that include one ADA stall or that are fully ADA-compliant. In most cases, these units will not be significantly larger than standard luxury trailers.

4. Delivery Logistics

Finally, keep in mind that the location for your restrooms will need to be accessible. Standard single-user units are small and typically delivered on flatbed trailers. Since one truck can provide multiple units, the logistics of setup are sometimes simpler. With luxury trailers, a delivery vehicle must tow each restroom to its final location.

Although this may not be much of a problem for most outdoor events, keep in mind how many trucks will need to travel across your event area. In most cases, proper planning can help to ensure that even large restroom trailers do not pose a significant issue. If necessary, consider having your restrooms delivered before other large equipment, stalls, stages, etc. arrive on-site.

Luxury restroom trailers offer your guests a welcome respite from the cramped and sometimes uncomfortable conditions of typical portable toilet stalls.
